Tarte Love, Trust & Fairy Dust eyeshadow palette review & swatches

Initially I was only tempted by the Fairy Flush blush in this collection from Tarte, but after making the trek to my closest Sephora, I ended up purchasing the eyeshadow palette as well.

Just like the blush’s cardboard packaging, this comes in a metallic pink cardboard box with pink/silver spots and raised gold glitter dots across the front, back and sides of the box.

The palette comes in a medium-sized circular compact, similar to other cirle palettes from Tarte. The outside lid is covered in bright purple glitters with light and dark pink holographic stars. A coat of resin-like material covers the glitter, so there’s no fallout mess.

Inside there’s a generous-sized mirror with the words “love, trust & fairy dust” in purple cursive writing at the top of the mirror.

Ten petal-shaped eyeshadows and one highlight are encased in metallic pink plastic packaging. The arrangement resembles a flower, added to the flower powered fairy theme.

Flower crown is a metallic white champagne shade with a sparkly frosted finish. I don’t have an exact dupe for the shade, but my closest is Becca’s Moonstone or Forever Young from Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Tarte Flower Crown swatched heavily (top) then blended out (bottom)

Mystical is a metallic magneta shade with a warm pink duochromatic shift. It’s the most unique shade in the palette in my opinion. Wish is a deep plum colour with a matte finish. This one was very patchy when swatched, and needed a bit of work to blend out evenly on the eyelid. Gossamer is a soft cream matte shade, and is the perfect all over lid shade to set my eye primer. It’s also handy for softening out darker shadows when I’ve been a little heavy-handed. Frolic is a warm-toned light brown colour with a matte finish. It’s a good transition shade for those with fair to light-medium skin tones. Twinkle is a gold shade with a strong metallic finish. The formula is buttery and pigmentation is fantastic, but I would recommend spraying your brush prior to applying the shadow to the eyelid to prevent fallout.

Flitter is a metallic light pink shade and has a similar consistency to Twinkle. Wonder is a deep brown colour with a matte finish. Like the other dark shade Wish, it applies patchy and needs more work to blend it out evenly. Whimsical is a soft purple mauve matte shadow, and is a nice all over lid colour for a cool-toned eye look. Giggle is a soft light mauve shade with a matte finish. This is another nice transition option, particularly for those with cool undertones. Magic is a metallic rosy copper shade with a silver shimmer finish. It is the most pigmented shadow in the palette.

All up I’m really happy I purchased this palette, as it gives me some nice cool and warm toned options to work with, and I especially enjoyed the metallic shadows. The only two shades I wasn’t impressed with were the dark mattes Wonder and Wish, but they aren’t shades I use much anyway.
