Mecca Beauty Loop: Winter 2018

This quarter’s Beauty Loop boxes from Mecca were specially curated from their recent Beauty Election winners, staff picks and products from their “hall of fame”. While I’m always grateful for free samples, I will admit this Level 2 box didn’t ‘wow’ me.

Nuface Prep-n-Glow

This product reminds me of a luxury face wipe (not that I’ve ever tried one!), but to me it’s not much more than a glorified makeup wipe. You’re meant to use the smooth side to remove makeup, then flip it over to the textured side to gently exfoliate the skin. It’s described as being perfect for a deep clean when you’re on-the-go, and while I agree with this, I’m not sure if I’d buy their 5 or 20 pack. Unless you’ve got plenty of money, it’s definitely not something to use like an everyday makeup wipe.

Origins Ginzing Moisturiser

I used this when I was really sick and my skin was dry. While it felt nice on the skin and helped a little with dryness, it didn’t blow me away. On top of that, Origins do test on animals, so I’ll pass on purchasing a full size.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer

I laughed when Smashbox came out with a two-in-one moisturiser/primer, but for those who are super lazy and want to keep their routine to a minimum, I can see this being an option. I wouldn’t repurchase this, but it’s a decent primer that offers some hydration to the skin.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15

I wasn’t very impressed by this primer, despite it being a Mecca Staff Pick. I felt like my skin texture was emphasised more when wearing the primer, and it didn’t have that luxury feel I’ve come to expect from Hourglass products. Sadly it’s another repurchase-pass from me!

Out of everything in the box, I enjoyed the NuFace Prep-n-Glow face wipe the most, but with four products focused around skincare (and no fun makeup items to try), this box felt pretty bland to me. I’m hoping the Spring Edition has a little more balance between skincare and makeup, with maybe a fun pop of colour thrown into the mix.
