A new lipstick really wasn’t on my radar, but when I saw Sephora was taking an extra 20% off sale items, I couldn’t resist picking up the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick ‘Mother’ in limited edition packaging for $12.40 AUD.
The photo on the website makes the shade look like a vibrant bold pink, however the description listed it as a dusty, mauve pink (which is a more accurate representation than the website photo). I own the same shade in the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula, so I was confident I’d like the colour in the traditional lipstick form.
Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss lipsticks usually come in sleek black packaging with a studded pattern covering the bullet, but the limited edition packaging has been changed to gunmetal silver.
The top of the cap has Kat Von D’s initials in raised lettering, and has a solid snap-click closure.
Inside is beautiful dusty pink shade, with Kat Von D’s initials engraved into the side of the lipstick.
The lipstick applied nicely, as was fully opaque with one coat. It felt comfortable on the lips, and the formula reminded me of Urban Decay’s Vice comfort matte lipsticks. Like most lipsticks, Studded Kiss isn’t transfer-proof, and did fade noticeably after eating.
In comparison to the liquid lipstick version of Mother, this is a slightly brighter and lighter dusty pink mauve, but still very similar to the Everlasting version in tone.
If you like matte lipsticks, the Studded Kiss lipstick range is definitely something to try, especially if you can pick it up at half the price!
