Decluttering my collection

After watching a few of Shaaanxo’s decluttering videos, I was inspired to take a look at my own collection, and see what needed to go. While my collection is barely a fraction of what Shannon has in hers, it’s still too much for one person, and it can feel a little overwhelming at times. Here’s what I’m finding new homes for (side note, I threw out a heap more products not pictured in this post).

Maybelline Baby Lips

I bought a bunch of these before going cruelty-free, and if my lips need a good balm, I always turn to my Burt’s Bees one. Three out of the four are tinted, so they’ll be nice for someone who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup.

Maybelline Colour Drama Lipsticks

I originally had four of these, but tossed out two that were once well-loved. The remaining two I’ve barely used, so with a sharpen and wipe down, they’ll be almost new!

Maybelline Color Exilir Lip Gloss

I got this in a beauty subscription box a while ago, and while the colour is nice, I’ve found other lip gloss formulas that I enjoy more.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick minis

I bought these in a set last year, with most of them only ever swatched/tried on once. I gave away two shades when I first got the set, and am now getting rid of the really colourful shades. I just can’t picture myself wearing them.

Mecca Cosmetica Lip De-Luscious Balm

Similar story to the Maybelline balms in that I prefer the Burt’s Bees balms, and I also don’t like having to dig into a pot with my finger. I’ll remove the top layer and sanitise this one thoroughly, as it’s another barely-used item.

Too Faced Gingerbread Cookie and Eggnog Latte palettes

I had a fair crack at a few of the shades in these palettes, but I have other shadows in similar shades I reach for a lot more. The only shade I’ll really miss is Central Park, which is a beautiful forest green shade.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner

I still can’t do a liquid wing, so this deluxe sample is no good for me. Not a bad product, it’s 100% to do with my skill level, which sits at about a zero. This should have been decluttered the second I got it.

Maybelline Master Liner

This brown kohl pencil just isn’t used enough to justify me keeping it in my collection. I also prefer using eyeshadow and a thin brush to define my eyes (see paragraph above as to why).

NYX Micro Brow Pencil

This would be staying if I could make the colour work, as it’s a great dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. Unfortunately the shade is just way too dark for me, so I’m passing this one on.

Models Prefer Rainbow Highlighter

If I want a colourful highlighter, I’m more likely to reach for my Becca or ColourPop compacts. I also find this a little too powdery for my liking, so it’s time to find it a new home.

  2. I think one thing I always struggle with is gifts because I do feel bad for not liking something when people have gone out of their way to buy it for me! So I end up hoarding it for another month or so before I can’t take it anymore and just chuck it. I should really just go for it beforehand, right? My friends won’t know and most likely won’t mind! • I agree! I have decluttered gifts before, but they are much harder to remove from my collection. If I think they are good quality but just don’t work for me (and aren’t expired) I try sanitise and pass on to another friend or family member.
