“Holographic” makeup was a big trend in 2017, and while the beauty community is yet to see any true holographic (i.e. pretty shifting rainbows) makeup, we did get a lot of duochromatic items. Here are the ones I picked up last year.
Too Faced La Creme Lipstick (Unicorn Tears)
This was the first duo-chromatic makeup item I purchased. While it has a blue-purple shift, it stains the lips a soft pink shade, making it pretty wearable.
Too Faced Totally Cute palette (Unicorn)
Unicorn is the third highlighting powder in the Totally Cute palette, and is a white-based highlight with pink iridescent reflect.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (Prismatic Amethyst)
This item came in holographic packaging, but don’t be fooled, it only has a duochrome effect. Prismatic Amethyst is a soft lilac highlight with a pink shift.
ColourPop Super Shock Highlight (Perilune)
Perilune is a pale green glittery highlight with a gold flip to it. I’d love to see more brands try duo-chromatic combinations with less popular colours like green!
Colourpop Lip Gloss (RSVP and Wishes)
These two lip glosses are from Colourpop’s I Hope It’s A Pony birthday collection. RSVP is a pale pink gloss with an iridescent green flip, while Wishes is a purple gloss with a pinky-blue shift.
ColourPop Pressed Powder Shadows (Party Favours, Rager, Cake Walk & The Big 3)
These shadows came from the same birthday collection as the lip glosses. All four shades are varying examples of duochrome. Party Favours is a shimmery mid-toned orange shade with a peachy-gold shift. Rager is a pale yellow with a green flip. Cake Walk (my favourite of the four) is a lavendar shade with a soft blue shift. The Big 3 is a white-based shadow with a light green flip.
Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow (Sea Siren and Sunset Cove)
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – these liquid eyeshadows have changed my glitter eyeshadow game! Sea Siren is a gorgeous bright lilac shade with a blue duochrome shift, and looks pink in some lighting. Sunset Cove is a soft baby pink shade with a gold-green shift.
