As someone who doesn’t love wearing a red lip all that often, I was surprised to find a few in my collection. Today I’m running through their formulas, showing comparison swatches, and sharing my favourite ways to rock a red lip (however rare that is!)
This line up consists of one creamy lip pencil, three mattes, one liquid chrome and one gloss. You’ll probably notice a cool-toned, medium-red theme running across all six (as well as all of them being from cruelty free brands!)
Colourpop Lippie Pencil, Bossy
While you don’t get much product with this lip pencil, Colourpop has created a soft, creamy formula that glides onto the lips. Bossy is a cool-toned, medium red.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, Santa Sangre
The Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is my favourite formula for a matte lip. This red still has a cool undertone, but is a little brighter than most of the reds in my collection.
Too Faced Melted Matte, Lady Balls
Lady Balls from Too Faced is a darker (but not crimson) red, and holds up just as well as the other liquid lipsticks I own. The formula is slightly thicker than Kat Von D’s liquid-y consistency.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, Beso
Stila’s Beso looks very similar to Too Faced’s Lady Balls (you get the pattern: cool-toned, medium red), but it’s formula takes longer to dry down completely. I prefer Kat or TF, but this is still a good formula.
Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Lip, Crimson Chrome
This is definitely a lipstick to whip about when it’s time to Deck the Halls, just make sure to wear a lip liner underneath, as this formula tends to travel. I love the glittery chrome effect, but it’s reserved for special occasions.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss, Runway Red
I bought this shade to step out of my comfort zone, and get me used to wearing red more often. Anastasia’s lip glosses are highly pigmented, smell amazing, and wear for a decent amount of time.
So, if I could only pick one, which would I wear to a Christmas party? For comfort and ease of application, I’d pick Runway Red from Anastasia Beverly Hills. If I wanted something that would stay put, I’d grab Santa Sangre from Kat Von D. And if I wanted something different and high-impact, of course I’d use Smashbox’s Crimson Chrome.
But now it’s time for the more important question – which one would you wear for the holidays?
