This is my take on the ‘This or that’ makeup tag, which sort of combines a wishlist with an anti-haul. Today I’m going to be sharing which holiday items I’d take, and which ones I’d leave behind from a few of my favourite cruelty-free brands.
Hourglass Ambient: Lighting Edit Volume 3 or Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette
This was an easy choice! I loved last year’s Ambient Edit palette, and was sad I missed out on the 2015 edition. This one has an even better selection of colours than last year, and if the formula is the same, I already know I’ll love it! And of course, the packaging is just beautiful in Rose Gold. While the Strobing powders are beautiful, the shade selection doesn’t wow me, and I feel like I get more variety with the face palette.
Becca Après Ski Glow Collection: Face or Eye Lights Palette
This choice was a lot harder than I thought. After reading Temptalia’s review (more like roast) of the Eye Lights palette, I thought I’d buy the face palette instead. However, as I’m getting the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 3 face palette, it seems silly to get something with a very similar concept (highlights, blushes and bronzer). The eyeshadows seem more like toppers according to other reviews, but I do feel like I’ll get a lot of wear out of these highlighters too. I love that they included Rose Quartz in both holiday palettes, so if you missed out on the full size compact, definitely scoop one of these up!
Tarte: Blush Bazaar or Big Blush Book Volume III
Another easy choice here. The Big Book (like the name suggests) is massive and fairly bulky. I’ve also heard these aren’t the same quality as their individual full sized counterparts, which is why I’ll be purchasing the Bazaar palette instead – it’s more compact and comes with a good selection of blushes, as well as two highlights. If I can’t get my hands on it when it lands in store, I’d consider picking up the Cheek Charmers set, as it’s one I can easily separate into gifts for myself and friends.
Anastasia Beverly Hills: Holiday Blush or Sugar Glow Kit
As someone who has tried and loves the Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit, the Sugar Glow Kit is definitely one I’d like to pick up if I have any money left after the holidays! Two of the shades are definitely more fair-skin friendly, and the other two would work as blush toppers. I also like the packaging comes with removable pans, so I can pop these in with other travel palettes as needed. I think the lighter blush kit would be nice for my skin tone, but my blushes from the Stila 2015 Holiday ‘A Whole Lot of Love’ set are close dupes.
