When Nars announced they would be selling their products in China (and thus losing their cruelty free status), I knew I had to find a new foundation to replace my all-time favourite – Sheer Glow. Bye Nars, hello Josie!
Let’s talk about packaging – have you seen a more gorgeous-looking foundation bottle? I love the colour swirls, the gold detailing and the weighted feel of the glass bottle.
I picked up this foundation while at the Brisbane Mecca Maxima opening after hearing it was good for those with combination and/or dry skin. I was colour-matched to the lightest shade (RG10 – Supernatural).
The foundation has a runny formula, and has light to medium coverage (very buildable too!) I found this gave my skin a natural, radiant finish, while still allowing my skin to peak through. If you are looking for full coverage, this might not be for you though.
Compared to my other two foundations, this one is totally different but still matches me just as well. You’ll notice the NYX BB Cream has a very thick consistency, and provides the greatest amount of coverage, but can get a bit cakey if built up. The NARS Sheer Glow foundation is thicker than the Josie Maran one, but no way near as thick as NYX. It’s a little lighter in shade too, but I don’t really notice this once I’ve blended it out on to my skin.
Because Josie Maran has a thinner formula, I find once I blend it out the colour matches me perfectly. Apologies that the swatch doesn’t reflect the way I’ve described it – Supernatural is much more cool-toned than what the photo swatch shows!
Interesting side note: this is classed as a “skincare foundation”, and is clinically proven to improve skin hydration and smoothness, as well as reduce wrinkles in four weeks. While I don’t have the wrinkles to put that claim to the test, I definitely found this to be the most comfortable foundation I’ve ever tried.
So what are my final thoughts? If you are looking for a cruelty-free, comfortable, medium coverage foundation, I recommend giving this one a try!
